Welcome to El Chapin, a hidden gem of Guatemalan cuisine nestled in the charming streets of Montpellier, France. Located at 1 Rue Balainvilliers, this quaint restaurant offers a delightful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city center, allowing you to savor authentic flavors in a warm, inviting atmosphere.
What sets El Chapin apart is not just its delicious offerings but the heartfelt service provided by its owner and staff. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with genuine warmth, making you feel right at home. As customer Kevin Zhao beautifully puts it, "If this meal doesn’t make you feel at home with your family, I don’t know what will." The personal touch is palpable, enhancing your dining experience.
The menu, while not extensive, boasts unique and fantastic dishes that showcase the rich culinary heritage of Guatemala. As noted by Ximena Sula, Chef Fernando and his team serve food that is both delicious and memorable. Highlights include the Ceviche—an exquisite balance of flavors that has left diners raving about its freshness. Robert Alexander notes that it is a must-try for anyone visiting.
Each plate tells a story of tradition, prepared with care and served with a smile, as mentioned by Kaz Raad, who was charmed by the friendly and attentive service. Even those craving heartier options can find satisfaction in the selection, perhaps with the promise of more substantial meat dishes in future menu updates, as suggested by Daniil TDJ.
El Chapin is more than just a restaurant; it's a cultural experience that invites you to explore the tastes of Guatemala. Whether you're a local or a traveler seeking something new, this establishment offers a flavorful journey that you won’t soon forget. Take a moment to enjoy the ambiance and perhaps pick up a handcrafted wooden statue—a small token from your visit.

An unexpectedly quaint dinner. Tucked away from the noise of the centre, you’ll receive the warmest greeting from the owner. If this meal doesn’t make you feel at home with your family I don’t know what will.

I don’t get the negative comments on this place. Food is delicious very flavorful and from what I can tell quite authentic lady that prepared my food was super nice and charming and smiling. I’ll be back to try more dishes and to buy one of those little wooden statues with a mask so cool!

After enjoying a few Very tasty authentic Homemade dishes The 4 of us felt lucky to get a table showing up without a reservation at 19:30. Friendly and attentive service made our street side meal enjoyable. The Ceviche is a must try.

A very nice little restaurant, slightly hidden away from the noise and commotion of nearby streets. The menu is not large, but the selection is good, and the food is fine. I would love to see some more substantial dishes, particularly with meat. Nevertheless, if you happen to be peckish, pass by to try out Guatemalan specialties here, you will not regret it!
